Added Guestbook feature

Well, I’ve been a little under the weather lately, so I haven’t been able to attend any car shows or work on the truck. I think it was something I ate. Unfortunately, what I ate was my own cooking!

Anyway, being stuck indoors, I decided to use that time to add a Guestbook feature to the website. So visit my Guestbook page and leave a comment.

I also added links on the Links page to the websites of some of my other antique vehicles. Check ’em out!

Charging trouble

Well, the battery problem appears to be a charging problem. Earlier today I put in a “known-good” battery and it worked fine. But while driving home tonight with the headlights on I noticed the thing was discharging. When I got home, I left the truck on the street while I moved the minivan out of the driveway. I stopped the truck since it was rather late and the truck is not exactly what you’d call ‘quiet.’ It wouldn’t restart. Battery nearly completely dead. So a booster-start to get it in the driveway and I’ll deal with it in the morning. But it’s pretty obvious to me that the problem is with the charging system and not the battery itself. Aaaarrrggghhh!

Car show at Sophia’s

Lil Red Truck at Sophia's Car ShowAttended the “car show” (really more of a cruise-in) at Sophia’s Restaurant in Roscoe. They said we should show up at 5, but we got there about 15 or 20 minutes before that and the rear lot was nearly full already. Glad we weren’t any later.

Good turnout — over 100 cars! Started thinning out about 7:45 (right after the last door prize was given out).

Battery issue?

Stopped for a few minutes at the library on the way home. When I came out, the truck barely started. The battery was weak and it cranked very slowly. Don’t know if the problem is the old battery (that was not properly off-season stored) or the charging system. Will have to investigate further…

Tire issue?

Stopped at Discount Tire to have them check the tire pressures and top them off. They refused to touch the tires because they are “too old,” even though they are not showing any significant wear, signs of dry rot, etc.

They were happy to put together an “out-the-door” price for four new tires, however.

Got it out and fired it up

Fired up the truck for the first time since Dad’s “last ride.”  It started pretty good; ran a little rough at first. Removed boxes of stuff I had stored in the bed. I put on the new vanity plates, got it fueled up and took it for a little ride to “blow the carbon out” of the carb.

Will clean it up a little in preparation for the “car show” (really just a cruise night) tomorrow evening at Sophia’s.

Created cool new maintenance page

Maintenance Mode pageI got tired of the ugly “maintenance mode” page that was displayed whenever I took the website offline to make any significant changes, so I created a new page. It includes a color pencil sketch” of the truck. Personally, I like it. Whadya think?

Vanity plates finally arrived!

Well, the state sure has a different understanding of “30 to 45 business days” than I do! I think the delay might have something to do with the recent bad winter weather (and roads), combined with recent changes at the Postal Service (closing Post Offices, changing postal routing, etc.). But whatever the reason, at least they’re finally here. Yay!

Now if the weather warms up a little I can get them installed on the truck…
